Stage Write Burlington is a collective of Burlington and area playwrights formed in 2015 to support the development of one another’s work and to expand the opportunities for locally written plays to receive readings and productions. The group’s membership fluctuates in number with a core group of six to eight individuals who meet on a regular basis to conduct informal in-house readings of new plays and to consider ways of bringing such works to wider public attention. Its signature event is Page to Stage, a rehearsed play-reading festival of new, original Canadian plays by local writers, undertaken in March each year in partnership with Theatre Burlington.
We will not shy away from controversial topics, in fact we embrace new innovative works of theatre. We want to make people think. However, as much as we respect freedom of speech, we will not tolerate gratuitously offensive content. Our plays are evaluated on a play by play basis.
